CBCT scan providing 3D view of jaw and teeth

CBCT Scanner

A CBCT Scan (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) is a type of dental imaging technology that produces three-dimensional images of the teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. Unlike conventional X-rays, which provide only two-dimensional images, CBCT allows dentists to visualize detailed internal structures, including the position, density, and relationships of anatomical components within the oral cavity.

CBCT uses a cone-shaped X-ray beam that rotates around the patient’s head within a short period of time. During this rotation, the system captures multiple images from different angles. These images are then processed by a computer to generate a detailed 3D model. The data can be viewed in multiple planes, including cross-sectional and volumetric views, allowing clinicians to clearly assess structures that may overlap in traditional 2D imaging. It also uses a lower radiation dose compared to conventional medical CT scans.

Dental treatments that require a CBCT Scan
CBCT plays an important role in various dental procedures, including:

  • Dental implant planning, to evaluate bone height and thickness

  • Impacted tooth surgery, especially when close to nerves

  • Root canal treatment, to assess complex root canal anatomy

  • Orthodontic treatment, to analyze jaw structure and bite alignment
  • Diagnosis of cysts, tumors, or abnormalities in the jawbone

  • Evaluation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and jaw function

Benefits of a CBCT Scan

  • Provides 3D images for more accurate diagnosis

  • Enables precise treatment planning and reduces procedural risks

  • Identifies nerve positions and vital structures, minimizing complications

Advanced CBCT imaging for accurate diagnosis
  • Eliminates guesswork from 2D images, improving treatment outcomes

  • Quick scanning process with comprehensive information in a single session

  • Enhances communication by making treatment plans easier to understand

  • Increases confidence for both the patient and the dental professional
